Sometimes it’s a small thing that catches your eye. It’s a tiny nuance that sparks your heart. It’s a sudden glistening ray so quick you chase it back within your memory, unsure whether you witnessed a reality or an apparition. Deep inside, perhaps it’s always been napping under the surface but it was that single heart stopping glance that awakened it.

Whether it was the look or the sound or the mannerism or the feeling, something, somewhere, sometime, somehow some way, in some manner, lit the fuse and ignited the flickering musical Elvis flame that exploded in our souls.

For my little girl self, it was the simpering beam lighting up the big screen like a glimmering star in the night sky, the one you can’t look away from and you need to know it by name.

The boyish glint transferred from his mesmerizing blue eyes and tied my heartstrings in knots that have never been unraveled. I have no doubt it will be taunt the remainder of my life.

Hits are common knowledge and preach to the masses on the street. The image is the roadmap and guide but it is the joy in the lesser known hidden gems that speak quietly to the faithful attending choir. I’m so pleased to be part of that songfest.

How many stars are in the sky? What fire lights a firefly? What attacked our heart in the most pleasurable way possible when he made his irrevocable presence known? How does his spirit quietly grasp our hand, holding tightly from his heart to ours?

“Sometimes the things we love the most we never understand”

Oh my gosh, truer words have never been spoken.

“What miracle brought you to me?” What miracle brought him to us? Was it an image on a movie screen or a voice floating along the radio waves?  Why him? Why us? Understanding is unnecessary in the matter. I’m just thankful it happened to me, whatever IT is.

Maybe this one is unknown or little known. Maybe it hasn’t been heard in a very long time. Maybe taking a few quiet moments to listen intently and softly with your heart will do you good.

Reflect on how fortunate we are to feel that Elvis connection that isn’t always understood. We don’t need to know every detail of every good thing. Sometimes soaking in the reward grows a much larger eventual bounty.

Click on the link. Drink in the mature 1970 Presley voice. Lean into it, enjoy it. It’s perfectly lovely.

I’LL NEVER KNOW

(words & music by Karger/Wayne/Weisman)

How many stars are in the sky, I’ll never know

What fire lights a firefly, I’ll never know.

What happens to this heart of mine each time you hold my hand

Sometimes the things we love the most

We never understand.

I never thought these eyes would see an angel’s glow

What miracle brought you to me, I’ll never know.

What happens to this heart of mine each time you hold my hand

Sometimes the things we love the most

We never understand.

I never thought these eyes would see an angel’s glow.

What miracle brought you to me, I’ll never know

What miracle brought you to me, I’ll never know
