In Elvis History….
February 26, 1954 Elvis and Dixie went to attend the All Night Gospel Singing at Ellis Auditorium together.
February 26, 1955 Elvis performed at the Hillbilly Jamboree, Circle Theater, Cleveland, Ohio at 7.30 and 10.30 p.m. After the show Elvis met with Bill Randle, a top WERE jock, which suggested to Bob Neal that Elvis was a “big artist on his way” and gave Neal the name of a contact for Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts, what would be a perfect way to become national exposed.
February 26, 1956 Elvis performed at the City Auditorium, Pensacola, Florida at 2:00, 5:00 and 8:00 p.m. After all taxes and expenses were paid the tour’s total net receipts came to $22,623.02. Elvis’ share was little over $6,700.
February 26, 1958 There was a brief recording session at Radio Recorders at which Elvis overdubbed guitar-slapping and piano on Wear My Ring Around Your Neck.
February 26, 1960 Elvis called Anita Wood, as he prepared to resume his old life. Joe Esposito, who had already left for home, had agreed to work for him upon his return. So had Elisabeth Stefaniak, who would be returning to the States with Vernon and Grandma, and Elvis hoped that Rex Mansfield, too, would be part of the team.
February 26, 1964 Elvis reported to Paramount for preproduction on Roustabout.
February 26, 1965 In Nashville Elvis recorded 2 songs, while the band did 3 additional tracks.
February 26, 1967 Once again Elvis delayed his departure to Los Angeles. He complained about painful saddle sores. Dr. Nichopoulos came out to the ranch to examine him. There were some prescriptions and the doctor even agreed to call the Colonel to explain the problem. Dr. Nichopoulos and Elvis hit it off almost from the start and this was the beginning of a long-standing relationship, both personal and professional.
February 26, 1969 Elvis and the Colonel provided a photo opportunity to publicize his upcoming engagement at the International. On a roughed-in stage at the casino construction site Elvis signed his “contract”, though the actual document would not be signed until April 15.
February 26, 1970 Elvis became aware from the first moments of rehearsal in Houston, that the sound system was hopeless and the band would not be able to hear itself. “Don’t fight it”, he said to Glen D. Hardin. “Just go ahead and play.”
February 26, 1971 Elvis and Priscilla saw the Irish Royal Show Band at the Stardust.
