A Note from Krista:
Hi Everyone! You may have seen our post recently regarding our need for some volunteers to help us with our mission to celebrate the life and legacy of Elvis Presley. The response has been tremendous and we are so thankful! I’ve responded to everyone who emailed me so be sure check your email inboxes! Following the shining example of Elvis Presley himself, and my other hero, Walt Disney, we are very excited to multiply our efforts here at TCB Radio Network with an amazing “inner circle” team of writers, business partners and more.
Today I am proud to introduce you to our first member of the volunteer team, Taking Care of Elvis, Deena Dietrich! Deena has done a TON of reading and writing about Elvis. She runs a very big website of her own, and has published a book about U2. I could go on and on about her – but she is a FANTASTIC and experienced writer – so I am very glad she graciously offered to introduce herself. Deena will be writing blog posts here on the site, and getting you live videos, photos and more from her fabulous Elvis related tips and travels! We will be sharing her social media posts for you to see as well. Thank you so much Deena! We are thrilled to have you on the team!
Check out Deena’s full intro below!
Hi I’m Deena Dietrich. I live in Maryland with my two dogs Elvis and Priscilla. I am an author, blogger and social media manager. I believe it is better to regret something you have done than something you haven’t. If you’d like to come along with me on my adventures, please follow me @DeenasDays on Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.
I have been an Elvis fan my entire life. I was 4 going on 5 when I saw the news on TV that Elvis had died. I grew up watching Elvis movies with my mom on Sundays. I became a fan of Elvis’ movies before I became a fan of his music. But it wasn’t until the mid 1990s that I became a true fan. Ok let’s be honest, I am obsessed with Elvis Presley. Elvis is basically the reason I moved to Memphis – twice (2002-2003 and 2008-2011). I lived just down the road from Sun Studio and about ten minutes from Graceland, the happiest place on earth. I visited both about once a month while I lived in Memphis and about twice a year now I am back in Maryland.
I love Elvis because he is beautiful inside and out. He was so generous, charismatic, talented, passionate and gorgeous! My favorite Elvis Presley songs are “Heartbreak Hotel,” “Loving Arms,” “Just Pretend,” “Love Me” and “American Trilogy.” I absolutely love the Elvis movies! My favorites are Girl Happy, Wild in the Country, Jailhouse Rock, Loving You and Blue Hawaii. Even though Girl Happy is a cheesy 1960s beach movie, I love it because it was my favorite growing up because one of main characters is named Deena. I got such a kick hearing Elvis say my name, and to be honest I still do. I actually met the actress who played Deena, Mary Ann Mobley, in Girl Happy and told her my name was Deena and she imitated Elvis saying Deena.
My favorite Elvis things to collect are Elvis books. I read them all – the good, the bad and the ugly. I have quite a collection. I am also growing my Elvis record collection as I love vinyl! I have been lucky enough to meet most of Elvis’ friends (of them Jerry Schilling is my absolute favorite), band members, co-stars, and most importantly his daughter Lisa Marie.
